FMBC Mental Health Resources

At Freewill, we believe God has called us to care for the whole person (mind, body, and spirit). While not everyone experiences a diagnosed mental illness, we must all be concerned about our mental and emotional wellness. Life can bring stress, grief, anxiety, disappointment, and difficult thoughts that impact how we live, relate, and grow.

As a faith community, we desire to break down the stigma often attached to conversations surrounding mental health. Seeking support, asking for help, and prioritizing healthy minds are not signs of weakness, they are steps toward healing, wholeness, and strength.

We believe God’s love, biblical truth, prayer, community support, and healthy resources can work together to help individuals and families navigate life’s challenges. You do not have to walk through difficult seasons alone.
Robert and Tonya Allen are faithful members of the Freewill Church family. Robert serves as a Deacon, and Tonya has faithfully served through the FMBC Choir and as a leader within our Kingdom Women Rising Women’s Ministry.

In 2023, tragedy struck their family when they lost their youngest child, Bobby Allen, at the age of 24. Since that difficult season, the Allens have continued trusting God while learning to navigate the deep grief that comes with the loss of a child.

As a means of healing, reflection, and helping others, they have taken pen to paper to share portions of their journey through a powerful series of articles titled Losing Bobby. This series not only offers an honest look into a parent’s grief, but also serves as a valuable resource for those seeking support for themselves or desiring to better walk alongside others experiencing loss and heartbreak.

The articles have been published through Gumptown Magazine. Click below to access the series.

Dr. Frederick Woods serves faithfully as a Clinical Chaplain and Counselor at Baptist Medical Center East. Drawing from years of ministry, counseling experience, and compassionate care for individuals and families, he has compiled the Faith & Mental Health Devotional Guide: A Journey to Healing, Hope, and Wholeness in Christ.

Built around the guiding theme of Advance, Pursue, and Proclaim, this devotional is designed to encourage spiritual growth while promoting emotional and mental wellness. Within its pages, readers will discover Scripture, real-life applications, mental health education, and practical steps that can be applied immediately. The guide also includes prayers, affirmations, and reflective exercises created to strengthen the spirit while equipping the mind.
